Pushclub is an informal gathering of people from all styles and backgrounds, who want to practice and share push hands in a friendly and non-competitive environment. It started when I was living in France and attending an annual Tai Chi camp ("Rencontres Jasnieres") where different teachers from all over the world would come and run 2h workshops in the morning. In the afternoons, everyone (or most) would gather together and share push hands, swapping partner every ten minutes. Here's a photo of what it looks like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11098468@N03/2725826314/ I thought it would be nice to have the same thing more often than once a year, so organized to meetup with various friends and acquaintances about once a month in a park in central paris, and that was the beginning of "push club". Not the first time such a thing had been done, and here in Melbourne there used to be a push hands club over in box hill. Trouble is that people have their own agendas, wanting to be better than the others or conversely not wanting to lose face. The key thing therefore is dialogue - I ask participants to please talk with their partner, find out what's OK, and what's not OK. For example, many people do not consider joint locks to be part of push hands practice. Some styles only do moving step, others only do fixed step. There are countless variations. Most interestingly, most styles never practice "free style" pushing hands - ie. just listening, following, diverting ... outside of any fixed pattern of movement. But that's OK - sometimes you can just do a "you show me yours, I'll show you mine" type thing.
